Reading: Bringing the Social Media #Revolution to Health Care

A century ago, the medical establishment considered William J. Mayo, MD and Charles H. Mayo, MD radicals. When they created the first integrated group practice of medicine, many saw it as an evasion of personal responsibility for his ( and it almost was his) patients.

Dr Will and Dr. Charlie saw it differently. They knew medical knowledge was developing faster than any individual could master. And they realised that if patients had to rely on a single doctor, their care wouldn't be as good as what a team of specialists could provide.

That same radical spirit is behind what Mayo Clinic is doing today - helping to lead the social media revolution in health care.

Today the Mayo Clinic through it's Center for Social Media and Social Media Health Network is all about the 'best interest of the patient and it is the only interest to be considered.'

It's not about competitive advantage. It's about patients, and how these tools can help healthcare professionals around the world to serve the patient better.... and work with them for their health.

When it comes to changing health care, we must crowd source the change we want to see in the world. Social Media allows that to happen, and Bringing the Social Media Revolution to Healthcare is a guide to doing this.
